Christ the King Secular Institute

Eremo

The Secular Institute of Christ the King is a lay community whose members consecrate themselves to God through vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

History
The Institute was founded by Giuseppe Lazzati, who initially embarked on a journey of "secular consecration" within the Missionaries of the Kingship of Christ, a Franciscan-inspired secular institute founded by Agostino Gemelli. In 1939, Lazzati left that Institute, along with a group of friends, and, supported by the Cardinal of Milan, Blessed Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster, founded a lay association called Milites Christi, which was later elevated to a secular institute of diocesan right in 1952. In 1963, the Institute received papal approval and in 1969 took its final name, the Secular Institute of Christ the King.

Purpose
Members of the Institute live in the world to bear witness to their faith, engaging in earthly affairs according to the values ??of the Gospel. The Institute is inspired by Christ the King because its members intend to bear witness to the sovereignty of Christ, chaste, poor, and obedient. Chastity is lived by freely loving every human being, offering one's life for the good of all. Poverty is intended to express to the world that one can live among temporal goods and use earthly means without becoming slaves to them. Through the vow of obedience, one can show the world that one can be happy while remaining fully available to God's will, humbly abandoning oneself to the guidance received from those entrusted with the leadership of the Institute.
